No. 63 Hokies return to Blacksburg

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The No. 63 Virginia Tech women’s tennis teams returns to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center this weekend for two matches.

The Hokies open the weekend of play as they take on Marshall at Noon on Saturday, March 9. Tech returns to the court Sunday to take on Maryland at 1 p.m.

Last weekend, the Hokies defeated West Virginia 5-2 in Charleston, W.V. on Saturday. Tech went 2-0 on the weekend as they returned to Blacksburg to defeat Richmond 7-0 on Sunday.

Following the two-win weekend, Tech climbed five spots in the ITA rankings to No. 63 and sits with an 8-2 record this season.

Marshall enters Saturday’s match with a 6-5 record. Last Sunday, the Herd defeated Old Dominion 4-3 in Huntington, W.V. Leading the way for Marshall is No. 1 singles player Dominika Zapranza.

Maryland brings a 4-4 record to Blacksburg after losing last Friday to VCU in Richmond, Va. 4-3. Vroni Van Berlo leads the charge for the Terrapins in the No. 1 singles position.

The Hokies will return to action Wednesday, March 13 as they travel to Hammond, La. to take on Southern and Southeastern Louisiana in a double-header at Noon and 6 p.m. respectively.
