No. 68 Tech knocks off West Virginia, 5-2

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The No. 68 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers 5-2 in a neutral site match held at the Charleston Tennis Club in Charleston, W. Va.

Tech (7-2) started the day off winning the doubles point as Kelly Williford and Raluca Mita claimed an 8-6 win over West Virginia’s (1-7) Hailey Barrett/ Ikttesh Chahal in the No. 1 spot. Tea Ivanovic and Carol Kahoun helped the Hokies to the point as they defeated Vivian Tsui/ Irinka Toidze, 8-4, in the No. 3 spot.

Tech kept things rolling in singles play as Ivanovic claimed a 6-3, 6-0 win over Toidze in the six spot, Kahoun knocked off Tsui 6-3, 6-4 in the five slot and Mita defeated Emily Mathis, 6-3, 6-4. Rounding out the day and the win for the Hokies was Ilinca Stoica, who earned the three-set win over Audrey Wooland in the No. 1 position, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

The Hokies return to their home court to round out the weekend of play hosting Richmond. The match will be held at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center and will begin at 1 p.m.
