Hokies finish day 2 play at Hokie Fall Invite
Doubles has a strong showing for Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team ended the second day of the Hokie Fall Invite at the Burrows Burleson Tennis Center. Doubles play kicked things off this morning and was the highlight of the Hokie effort.

The Hokies started the day off with strong doubles play as the team of Raluca Mita and Kelly Williford advanced to the final of Flight A with an 8-6 win. The team of Ilinca Stoica and Isel Martinez-Marcos dropped their Flight A semi-final match 8-6 to Armstrong Atlantic but will play for third place tomorrow morning.

After a slow start yesterday in Flight B, Emily Lauten and Megan Conley won their match 8-1 to advance to the final of the consolation bracket. The Hokies posted two other doubles wins in the consolation II bracket, as well.

Ilinca Stoica began her singles campaign in Flight A after a first-round bye yesterday and a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win in the first session of singles play. Isel Martinez-Marcos dropped her Flight A match 2-6, 0-6. Carol Kahoun won a close match in Flight A consolation 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (11).

Raluca Mita advanced to the Flight B semi-finals with a 6-3, 6-0 win as Emily Lauten held on 6-3, 7-5 to advance in the Flight B consolation bracket.

Tea Ivanovic won her first singles match of the day 6-4, 6-2 to advance in Flight C. Kelly Williford fell 1-6, 3-6 in Flight C.

Tech had a disappointing afternoon as Carol Kahoun (6-1, 6-1) and Laura Ramthun (6-1, 6-1) were the only Hokies to win their singles matches. Emily Lauten advanced in the Flight B consolation bracket due to an opponent withdraw.

Ilinca Stoica dropped her Flight A match 4-6, 6-3, 2-6. Raluca Mita also fell in Flight B by a score of 2-6, 4-6. Tea Ivanovic was defeated by a score of 1-6, 1-6. All three of these Hokies will compete tomorrow in the third place match.

Play continues tomorrow morning at the Burrow-Burleson Tennis Center with the final round of doubles followed by the final round of singles.
