BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team completed play today at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center after two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. The schedule for the Hokie Invite was altered half-way through the day as rain halted outdoor play.
In the morning, the Hokie teams of Raluca Mita/Kelly Williford and Ilinca Stoica/Isel Martinez-Marcos advanced in the Flight A Doubles bracket with convincing wins of 8-4 and 8-1 respectively. Carol Kahoun/Tea Ivanovic dropped their doubles match 8-0 in Flight A, as the three Tech teams in Flight B also fell.
Singles play was highlighted by wins from Martinez-Marcos (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) in Flight A, Mita (6-1, 6-0) in Flight B, and Williford (6-1, 6-3) and Ivanovic (6-4, 6-4) in Flight C.
Kahoun (4-6, 3-6), Emily Lauten (0-6, 3-6), Megan Conley (0-6, 0-6), Frances Peyton (0-6, 2-6), Laura Ramthun (2-6, 3-6) and Mashal Temory (0-6, 0-6) dropped their singles matches but will continue play in the consolation bracket tomorrow.
The day concluded with another round of doubles matches as the teams of Stoica/Marcos-Martinez (8-1) and Mita/Williford (8-3) continued their dominance to reach the Flight A semi-finals.
In Flight B, Lauten/Conley won their match in the consolation bracket 8-1.
