LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team wrapped up play at Liberty today. The squad saw a lot of success in doubles action not only at Liberty, but also while competing at Elon. Though the Liberty Fall Classic finished up today, play will still continue on Sunday at Elon.

The Hokies dominated doubles play on the final day of action at Liberty, as Tea Ivanovic and Carol Kahoun teamed up to top Appalachian State’s Jennifer Ansari and Ellie Linsell, 8-6, before claiming the Flight 1 doubles final against James Madison’s Michelle Nguyen and Taylor Pinchoff, 8-2.

After receiving a bye in the consolation round, Kahoun advanced by default in singles play, but later fell to JMU’s Pinchoff (3-6, 2-6) in the Flight 1 consolation round at Liberty.

Ivanovic, who advanced in Flight 2 at Liberty during day one, fell to ASU’s Ansari (6-7, 4-6) and later dropped her consolation match to Longwood’s Malin Allqurin (0-6, 4-6).

In Flight 6 consolation action, Ramthun dropped her first match of the day to Liberty’s Nicola Wellman (1-6, 0-6), while Frances Peyton fell (0-6, 0-6) to ASU’s Sarah King in Flight 7 play.

In action at Elon, Emily Lauten topped UNC Greensboro’s Kayla Gammmie in the consolation round (7-6, 6-4) before falling to Western’s Stacia Kissell (4-6, 0-6) in the quarterfinals.

Isel Matrinez-Marcos advanced after defeating Campbell’s Ana Ortiz (2-6, 7-5, 6-4), but later fell to Elon’s Jordan Johnston (7-5, 2-6, 6-7) in A-1 singles play.

Megan Conley advanced in A-2 action past Meredith’s Caroline Hunt, but dropped her next match to USC Upstate’s Allison Beeler (2-6, 1-6).

In B-1 singles play, Marshal Temory defeated NC A&T’s April Burrage (6-2, 7-6), but was unable to advance as she fell in the next round to Western’s Shannon Bettiol (1-6, 2-6).

Doubles play would again be the success of the day for the Hokies as Lauten/ Martinez-Marcos topped USC Upstate’s VonStryk/ Rojas (9-8(9)), and Conley/ Temory defeated NC A&T’s Austin/ Stalling (8-6). Both of Tech doubles tandems will return to the court at Elon Sunday morning at 9 a.m. for championship matches.
