BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team opens up the fall season this weekend. The Hokies will be splitting up to head to Elon and Liberty. The tournament at Elon lasts from Sept. 14-16, while play at Liberty will be held Sept. 14-15.
Travelling to Elon for Tech will be Emily Lauten, Isel Martinez-Marcos, Megan Conley and Marshal Temory. All members of the Tech team will play singles and doubles. For doubles, Lauten and Martinez-Marcos will compete in flight A-1, while Conley and Temory will compete in flight A-2. Both matches will take place Friday afternoon.
The Elon Fall Invitational will consist of four singles flights and four doubles flights. Lauten and Martinez-Marcos are seeded in the A-1 singles flight with Conley seeded in the A-2 singles flight. Temory rounds things out for the Hokies as she is seeded in the B-1 singles flight.
The Hokies will compete against host Elon, Campbell, Western, North Carolina Central, USC-Upstate, UNC-Greensboro, North Carolina A&T, and Meredith.
Heading to Liberty will be Tea Ivanovic, Carol Kahoun, Frances Peyton and Laura Ramthun. Once again, all four Hokies will play both singles and doubles, as Ivanovic and Kahoun will be paired playing in the first flight and Peyton and Ramthun will be paired playing in the second flight.
The Liberty Fall Classic will have three doubles flights and seven singles flights. Kahoun is the lone Hokie in the first flight, and Ivanovic is seeded in the second flight. Ramthun will compete in the sixth flight for the Hokies. Finally, Peyton will compete in the seventh flight for Tech.
Liberty will host Tech, James Madison, Longwood, Appalachian State, West Virginia State, Norfolk State, and Radford.
