BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will open the 2012 ACC Championship on Thursday at noon against 32nd-ranked Florida State. The ACC Championship is being held at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Tech (12-12, 3-8 ACC) earned the 10th-seed going into this week’s championship. The Hokies fell, 7-0, to Florida State (12-9, 5-6 ACC) during the final weekend of the regular season.
Virginia Tech’s Carol Kahoun has a 13-11 mark in duals this season while teammate Shannon Betts is adding a 12-11 tally, including 11-6 in the No. 3 singles. Emily Lauten is 11-9, having seen time in the No. 4, 5 and 6.
Florida State is led by Carolina De Los Santos with a 14-6 record in duals. Amy Sargeant has also picked up 14 wins this season and has a 14-4 record. Francesca Segarelli and Ruth Seabourne are 12-8 and 11-9, respectively. The Seminoles’ duo of Segarelli and Seabourne are ranked 40th in the latest ITA doubles rankings.
With a win on Thursday, the Hokies would advance to face second-seed North Carolina on Friday.
