BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 59 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will wrap up their spring break training trip to Florida on Sunday, March 9 when the Hokies face Florida Gulf Coast at 10 a.m. in Fort Myers, Fla.
Tech (8-5) is coming off a 4-3 win over then-ranked No. 48 Maryland. The Hokies secured points in the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles for the win as Shannon Betts, Courtney Rauscher, Emily Lauten and Carol Kahoun all outlasted their opponents in tough three set matches.
Martha Blakely and Betts are both 8-4 on the season in duals while Kahoun is 8-5. Lauten is adding a 7-6 mark and Rauscher is 5-4. Betts has teamed up with Katie Blow this season in doubles and the duo has tallied a 5-3 record in duals.
The Eagles (4-5) fell to Penn, 5-1 the last time out. Bettina Botha picked up the point for FGCU in the No. 5 singles. FGCU’s duo of Gyanna Mandic and Jen Evans blanked Penn’s No. 2 duo in doubles, winning 8-0.
Botha has a 6-2 record in duals while Morgan Bechtel is 5-4. Evans and Sarah Means are both 4-5 on the season.
The Hokies will return to Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Saturday, March 17, hosting an ACC match against Boston College.
