Tech takes to the road for two
Hokies travel to Marshall and Maryland for weekend matches

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will travel to Huntington, W.Va. to face Marshall on Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. before making the trip to College Park for an ACC match against No. 48 Maryland on Sunday, March 4 at 1 p.m.

Tech (7-4) is looking to bounce back after falling to Minnesota, 7-0 the last time out. The Hokies are being led by Martha Blakely and Shannon Betts who both have tallied 7-3 records this season. Blakely plays in the No. 1 while Betts primarily sees time in the No. 3. Tech’s Emily Lauten and Carol Kahoun have 6-5 records in their respective singles matches.

Marshall (3-6) is looking to snap a three game losing streak and fell 7-0 to Miami (OH) the last time out. The Thundering Herd defeated the Hokies, 4-3 last season in Blacksburg. Leading MU is Maria Voscekova with a 4-4 mark while Dominika Zaprazna is 4-5.

The Hokies will open ACC road play against Maryland (6-4) on Sunday. The Terps defeated Richmond, 5-2 in their last match. The Terps clinched the doubles point while No. 36 Cristina Stancu, Ana Belzunce, Welma Luus and Vroni Van Berlo had singles wins for Maryland. Belzunce and Luus are ranked in the latest ITA doubles standings at No. 25.

Tech will wrap up its road swing next week at Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, March 11 in a 10 a.m. match in Fort Myers, Fla.
