BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 62 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. for a pair of matches beginning with Missouri on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. (ET) before facing host team No. 71 Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Noon (ET). All matches are slated for the Baseline Tennis Center.

The Hokies (7-2) are coming off a 5-2 win over Liberty. Tech swept the doubles matches and followed it up with four singles wins as Shannon Betts, Courtney Rauscher, Carol Kahoun and Emily Lauten all claimed wins.

Virginia Tech’s No. 1 singles player Martha Blakely has posted a 7-1 record on the season to lead the Hokies. Betts has also notched a 7-1 mark, playing primarily in the No. 3. Kahoun is 6-3 and has seen time in the No. 3, 4 and 5 singles. Lauten has a 5-4 tally with matches mainly in the No. 5 and 6. In doubles, the duo of Betts and Katie Blow are 5-1 on the season with a 4-1 record in the No. 2.

Missouri (4-3) swept St. Louis, 7-0 the last time out with just one singles match going to three sets. Rachel Stuhlmann is ranked No. 77 in the latest ITA singles standings and has a 9-1 mark on the season, playing mainly in the middle of the line-up. Alex Clark and Jamie Mera are both 7-3 on the season for the Tigers. The tandem of Maria Christensen and Annemijn Koenen are 7-1 with a 4-1 record in the No. 1 doubles.

The Gophers (5-1) defeated then-No. 46 North Carolina State, 5-2 the last time out. The Wolfpack took the doubles point, but Minnesota came back for five wins in singles. Alexa Palen is 5-0 for Minnesota with matches in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Julia Courter is adding a 5-1 mark while Doron Muravnik is 4-1.

Virginia Tech will remain on the road following the trip to Minnesota. The Hokies will travel to Huntington, W.Va. for a match against Marshall on Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. Tech will have its first ACC road match on Sunday, March 4 at Maryland beginning at 1 p.m.
