Women's Tennis set for first road match
The Hokies will travel to Liberty on Friday

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 62 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will take to the road for the first time this season, traveling to Lynchburg, Va. to face Liberty on Friday, Feb. 17. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m. at Liberty’s Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts.

The Hokies (6-2) are looking to bounce back after falling to No. 49 VCU, 5-2 on Wednesday. Tech claimed wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 singles as seniors Martha Blakely and Shannon Betts secured the points.

Blakely has posted a 7-1 record this season in the No. 1 singles and is the current ACC Player of the Week. Betts is 6-1 this season in the No. 3. Freshman Carol Kahoun has tallied a 5-3 mark on the season while senior Katie Blow is 3-1. Emily Lauten and Isel Martinez-Marcos have paired up in the No. 3 doubles for a 5-2 record. Betts and Blow are 4-1 in the No. 2.

Liberty (1-3) picked up its first win of the season the last time out with a 4-3 decision against Longwood. The Flames claimed the doubles point and picked up wins in the No. 3, 4 and 6 singles. Brittany Yang has a 3-1 record, playing in the middle of the order for the Flames. Alexandra Sheeran is 1-1 in the No. 1 singles.

Both teams have faced Appalachian State this season. The Hokies defeated the Mountaineers, 7-0 while the Flames edged ASU, 4-3.

Tech will remain on the road for a neutral site match on Saturday, Feb. 25 when the Hokies face Missouri in Minneapolis, Minn. The following day, the Hokies will square off against host team Minnesota.
