Virginia Tech hosts VCU in midweek match
The Hokies look to extend four match win streak

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 61 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will host VCU on Wednesday, Feb. 15 in a 2 p.m. match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.

Tech (6-1) is coming off a pair of wins over the weekend, having defeated Davidson, 7-0 and East Tennessee State, 5-2. The Hokies’ Martha Blakely garnered ACC Player of the Week honors after going 2-0 on the weekend in the No. 1 singles. She also picked up a pair of wins in doubles. Blakely is 6-1 on the season for the Hokies.

Shannon Betts is 5-1 and Carol Kahoun has notched a 5-2 mark for Tech. Isel Martinez-Marcos and Emily Lauten have both notched 4-3 records for the Hokies this season. Courtney Rauscher is 3-0 and Katie Blow has a 3-1 tally.

The Rams (8-2) defeated Old Dominion, 6-1 and fell to Penn State, 4-3 over the weekend. VCU has also picked up wins this season over No. 62 Marshall (5-1) and No. 37 North Carolina State (6-1).

Alex Bara leads the Rams with a 120 ranking in the most recent ITA singles standings.

Tech will be on the road for the first time this season following the match against the Rams. The Hokies will travel to Lynchburg, Va. to face Liberty in a 5:30 p.m. match on Friday, Feb. 17.
