BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 61 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team picked up its second victory on Saturday with a 5-2 win against East Tennessee State in the afternoon match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The Hokies (6-1) swept the doubles matches to pick up the 1-0 lead as Emily Lauten and Isel Martinez-Marcos paired up in the No. 3 to defeat the ETSU )1-2) tandem of Marine Wieliczko and Jessica Brumit, 8-1.
Tech’s No. 1 duo of Martha Blakely and Courtney Rauscher secured the point with a n 8-4 win over Paula Jaime and Giulia Andreazza. The Hokies’ No. 2 pair of Shannon Betts and Katie Blow downed Kelsey Williams and Diana Navrostska, 8-5.
Betts had a straight set, 6-0, 6-1 win over Andreazza in the No. 3 while Rauscher defeated Williams, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4.
The Hokies secured the team win with Blakely’s 6-2, 6-1 decision over Wieliczko in the No. 1 singles match. Carol Kahoun defeated Brumit 6-3, 6-2 to pick up a point for the Hokies in the No. 5 singles.
The Hokies will wrap-up their eight-match home stand on Wednesday, Feb. 15, hosting Virginia Commonwealth in a 2 p.m. match at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
