Hokies host two on Saturday
Women's tennis hosts Davidson and East Tennessee State in a doubleheader

BLACKSBURG, Va. – No. 61 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will continue their home stand with a pair of matches on Saturday, Feb. 11. At 10 a.m. the Hokies will face Davidson followed by East Tennessee State University in the afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Hokies (4-1) defeated Appalachian State, 7-0 in their last match. Tech won all three doubles and all six singles matches. Martha Blakely, Isel Martinez-Marcos, Shannon Betts, Carol Kahoun, Emily Lauten and Katie Blow all picked up singles wins.

Blakely and Betts have both posted 4-1 records on the season. Lauten, Cahoun and Martinez-Marcos are 3-2 while Blow is 2-1. Courtney Rauscher has played singles in two matches this season and picked up wins in both. The doubles team of Betts and Blow is 3-0 and Lauten and Martinez-Marcos are 4-1.

Davidson (2-3) defeated North Carolina A&T, 6-1 the last time out. The Wildcats won the doubles point to take the lead going into singles where Brites Moniz-Soares, Nisha Crouser, Katharine Dicconson, Elise Held and Frizzi Bschorer nabbed singles wins to secure the match. Moniz-Soares leads the Wildcats with a 3-2 record this season, playing primarily in the No. 1 and 2.

East Tennessee State (1-1) fell to No. 47 Georgia State, 7-0, in the Bucs previous match, but opened the season with a 4-3 win over Radford. Paula Jaime leads ETSU with a 1-1 record, including a 1-0 mark in the No. 1 and is ranked No. 115 in the most recent ITA singles rankings. Jaime, Marine Wieliczko and Kelsey Williams have recorded singles wins this season for the Buccaneers.

Tech will wrap up its eight-match home stand on Wednesday, Feb. 15 against Virginia Commonwealth, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
