BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team fell to No. 9 Virginia, 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. Tech falls to 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in the ACC while the ‘Hoos improve to 3-0 and 1-0.
The Cavaliers claimed the doubles point to start the match with wins in all three matches.
In singles matches, Martha Blakely faltered in the No. 1, falling to UVa’s No. 29 Emily Fraser, 6-3, 6-2. Tech’s Isel Martinez-Marcos fell to No. 30 Lindsey Hardenbergh, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles.
In the No. 4 Carol Kahoun dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to No. 75 Erin Vierra while the Hokies’ Emily Lauten fell 6-2, 6-3 to No. 76 Maria Fuccillo in the No. 5.
UVa’s Li Xi picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win in the No. 3 singles, defeating Shannon Betts and Molly OKoniewski had a 6-0, 6-1 win over Katie Blow in the No. 6 singles.
The Hokies will be back on the court on Saturday, Feb. 4 hosting Winthrop at 10 a.m.
