NORFOLK Va. – Virginia Tech’s women’s tennis team secured four singles and two doubles wins on Saturday during the second day of competition at the ITA Atlantic Regionals in Norfolk, Va.
Tech’s Martha Blakely secured a three set win over William & Mary’s Anik Cepeda. After falling behind 6-1 in the opening set, Blakely rallied back for the second and third set to claim 6-1, 6-4 wins to take the match.
The Hokies’ Courtney Rauscher defeated Longwood’s Martha Pinyol in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 while Isel Martinez-Marcos notched a 6-2, 7-5 win over Ellie Ball of Marshall.
Blakely will face Lauren Greco of Georgetown on Sunday while Rauscher squares off against Maryland’s Ana Belzunce. Martinez-Marcos will play No. 91 Jeltje Loomans of William & Mary.
In the qualifying singles consolation draw, Emily Lauten defeated Old Dominion’s Margarita Belyakova in a three set match. Lauten dropped the first set 6-3 but came back in the second set for a 6-3 win. In the third set, the Tech player secured the match, 1-0(4).
Virginia Tech claimed a pair of wins in doubles as Tea Ivanovic and Martinez-Marcos paired up to defeat Georgetown’s Vicky Sekeley and Tina Tehrani, 8-5. Blakely and Rauscher also teamed up for a win, downing Richmond’s Helen Cunningham and Alex Smyth, 8-3.
Ivanovic and Martinez-Marcos are set to play W&M’s Martha Belaya and Loomans. Blakely and Rauscher will pair up to face No. 8 Emily Fraser and Hana Tomlijanovic of Virginia.
Competition will continue on Sunday.
