BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team is set to open play at the 2011 ITA Atlantic Regional tournament on Friday, Oct. 21 beginning with qualifying draws. The tournament will run until Tuesday.
The main draw will begin on Saturday. Martha Blakely, Courtney Rauscher, Isel Martinez-Marcos, Tea Ivanovic and Shannon Betts will begin play in the main draw.
Blakely is set to face William & Mary’s Anik Cepeda and Rauscher plays Marta Pinyol of Longwood. Martinez-Marcos and Marshall’s Ellie Ball will meet in the opening round while Ivanovic will face Maria Belaya of Clemson. Betts has a first round match up against No. 125 Marlene Mesgarzadeh of William & Mary
In doubles Blow and Lauten are set to team up against Liberty’s duo of Rebekah Jenkins and Alexandra Sheeran. Ivanovic and Martinez-Marcos will face Alicia Dome and Yana Mavrina of Temple. Rounding out the doubles’ pairs is Blakely and Rauscher who received a bye in the opening round.
Qualifying singles will begin Friday morning at 9 a.m. The first round of doubles will follow in the afternoon.
