WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s women’s tennis duo of Shannon Betts and Courtney Rauscher advanced to the semifinals of the B draw doubles on Friday during the first day of the Wake Forest Invitational.
In the first round the Hokies’ pair defeated Marjorie Baker and Clare Spooner of University of Virginia with a score of 8-4. Betts and Rauscher moved on to the second round, facing Davidson’s Brites Moniz-Soares and Elise Held. The Tech team defeated Moniz-Soares and Held, 9-7 to advance.
On Saturday, the pair will play VCU’s Daria Yakaleva and Olga Terteac.
Betts battled to a three set match in the A singles draw against ETSU’s Paula Jamie. Betts claimed the opening set, 6-3, but Jamie came back to take the next two, 6-0, 6-3.
Tournament play will continue on Saturday morning.
