Tech battles through day one of UNCW Collegiate Invitational
Women's tennis battles opponents and weather during opening day of tournament

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Virginia Tech not only battled opponents on the tennis court, but also had to overcome a weather delay during the opening day of the UNCW Collegiate Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.

Shannon Betts and Katie Blow paired up in the flight A doubles. The pair defeated Georgetown’s Lauren Greco and Sophie Panarese in a hard-fought 9-7 match. The duo will face Furman’s Katherine Oudin and Margaret Boyette in Saturday’s match.

In the flight B doubles Courtney Rauscher paired up with UNCW’s Hamilton Lovett for an 8-5 win over the Furman duo of Susan Bitetti and Jenny Porter.

In the flight A singles, Rauscher claimed a win over Angie Sekely in a back and forth match that went to three sets. Rauscher took the first set, 6-4 but fell 6-4 in the second. Tech wrapped up the win with a 6-2 score in the final set. Rauscher will face Furman’s Lauren Kline on Saturday.

Play will resume on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
