UNCW Collegiate Invitational Draws

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Three members of the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will travel to Wilmington, N.C., Sept. 16-18 for the UNCW Collegiate Tennis Invitational at the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.

Competing for Tech is a trio of seniors with Courtney Rauscher, Shannon Betts and Katie Blow representing the team. Joining the Hokies at the event are host team UNC Wilmington, Furman, Georgetown and West Virginia. The field is made up of 39 players.

Betts claimed 11 singles matches and 16 doubles matches in 2011 while Rauscher won 17 doubles matches last season. She saw limited time in singles matches, but secured a 5-3 record. Blow claimed 18 doubles matches in 2011.

Friday’s competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. with one round of doubles. Singles play will begin at 11 a.m. with two round being held on Friday. On Saturday, there will be two rounds of doubles beginning at 8:30 a.m. One round of singles on Saturday will be played starting at 1 p.m. The championship for all singles and doubles flights will be played on Sunday with doubles starting at 9 a.m.
