WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech secured wins in a pair of doubles matches and three singles on the second day of the 19th Annual Tribe Invitational hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
In the Flight A singles, VT’s Martha Blakely fell in the main draw to No. 93 Alex Bara of VCU, dropping the first set, 6-2. Blakely played Bara close in the second set before falling 7-5.
The Hokies’ Isel Martinez-Marcos picked up a pair of wins in the back draw defeating Winthrop’s Camille Amrani in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Martinez-Marcos defeated Joanna Matuszczyk of Richmond, 6-1 in the opening set and was up 2-1 in the second set before Matuszczyk retired.
Tech’s Emily Lauten fell in her first set to Tulane’s Lindsay Dvorak in the Flight C singles, but came back to defeat Megan Douglas of JMU, 6-4, 6-4 in the second match.
Ivanovic and Blakely teamed up to secure a win over JMU’s Katherine Bulling and Kinsey Pate, 8-2 in the Flight A Doubles.
In the Flight B Doubles, Lauten and Martinez-Marcos knocked off ODU’s duo of Margarita Belyakova and Nika Khmolovska, 8-2.
The Hokies will wrap up the Tribe Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 11.
