ATLANTA, Ga. – The 13th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets proved to be too strong Saturday afternoon as they defeated Virginia Tech, 7-0, at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on the Georgia Tech campus. The Yellow Jackets improved to 12-8 on the year and 5-5 in the ACC, while Tech fell to 10-13 overall and 2-8 in the conference.

After winning all three doubles matches to capture the first point of the dual match, the Yellow Jackets swept all of the six singles matches to seal the victory.

In singles, Yasmin Hamza (Sr., Cairo, Egypt) dropped the No. 1 match, 6-3, 6-1, to 39th-ranked Jillian O’Neill, Martha Blakely (Jr., Reading, Pa.) fell, 6-3, 6-0, to No. 94 Caroline Lilley at No. 2 and Shannon Betts (Jr., Newnan, Ga.) lost, 6-4, 6-0, in the No. 3 contest versus No. 66 Viet Ha Ngo.

Elsewhere in singles, Holly Johnson (Sr., Tallahassee, Fla.) lost, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 4 to Lynn Blau, Isel Martinez-Marcos (Fr., Esparreguera, Spain) fell, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5 against Sasha Krupina and Emily Lauten (So., Marietta, Ga.) dropped the No. 6 contest, 6-0, 6-2, to Elizabeth Kilborn.

In doubles, Hamza/Johnson, ranked No. 45, lost the No. 1 match, 8-4, to Lilley/O’Neill and Blakely/Courtney Rauscher (So., Evans, Ga.) fell, 8-5, at No. 2 versus Blau/Kilborn. Georgia Tech completed the sweep at No. 3 as Betts/Katie Blow (Jr., Richmond, Va.) lost, 8-4, against Krupina/Ngo.

The Hokies conclude the regular season on Sunday with a noon match at No. 12 Clemson. Tech will participate Apr. 21-24 in the ACC Championships in Cary, N.C.
