Hokies hit the road to face Blue Devils, Tar Heels
Tech faces two top-5 teams

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will face the toughest road trip of the season this weekend with matches at No. 4 Duke and at No. 3 North Carolina.

Tech (9-9, 1-4), ranked No. 55 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, will be led by Yasmin Hamza (Sr., Cairo, Egypt) at No. 1 and Martha Blakely (Jr., Reading, Pa.) at No. 2. Hamza is 12-6 in dual matches this season while Blakely is 21-11 in singles contests. The Hokies dropped two home matches last weekend to Florida State and Miami.

Duke (15-2, 4-0) defeated Maryland, 6-1, last week which was the Blue Devils’ seventh straight victory. Duke features six nationally ranked singles players including No. 13 Reka Zsilinszka, No. 45 Nadine Fahoum, No. 59 Elizabeth Plotkin, No. 64 Mary Clayton, No. 74 Rachel Kahan and No. 77 Ellah Nze. The Blue Devils also have three ranked doubles teams including No. 12 Fahoum/Nze, No. 71 Kahan/Nze and No. 72 Clayton/ Monica Gorny.

North Carolina (16-3, 5-0) picked up its ninth consecutive victory last weekend with a 5-2 win at Boston College. The Tar Heels lineup includes No. 15 Zoe De Bruycker, No. 81 Shinann Featherston and No. 125 Lauren McHale. UNC has two ranked doubles teams in No. 6 Featherston/McHale and No. 53 Brycker/McHale.

Following this weekend’s matches, the Hokies will conclude the home schedule with contests against No. 50 Wake Forest and No. 36 NC State.
