Seminoles, Hurricanes next up for Tech
Hokies face weekend matches against No. 35 Florida State and No. 6 Miami

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will play host to two ACC home matches this weekend against ACC foes No. 35 Florida State and No. 6 Miami. Both contests will be played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. The Florida State match is scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 a.m., and the Miami contest will be played Sunday at noon.

Tech (9-7, 1-2), ranked No. 57 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, will be led by Yasmin Hamza (Sr., Cairo, Egypt) at No. 1 and Martha Blakely (Jr., Reading, Pa.) at No. 2. Hamza is 11-5 in dual matches this season while Blakely is 21-9 in singles contest. In ACC action, Tech defeated Maryland (4-3) and lost to Boston College (3-4) and Virginia (0-7).

Florida State (6-5, 1-2) defeated Georgia State, 5-2, last week at home in its last match. The Seminoles defeated Georgia Tech (5-2) for their lone ACC win, while dropping matches versus Miami (1-6) and Clemson (2-5). Florida State leads the all-time series, 10-1, and won last year, 6-1, in Tallahassee, Fla.

Miami (11-4, 3-1) dropped a 5-2 decision last week against No. 9 Baylor and will play Saturday at No. 17 Virginia before facing the Hokies. The Hurricanes have defeated Florida State (6-1), Georgia Tech (4-3) and Clemson (6-1) in conference matches, while suffering a 4-3 loss to current No. 3 North Carolina. Miami leads the series 13-0.
