BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech saw a four-match winning streak come to an end Friday afternoon in a 5-2 loss to No. 46 William & Mary at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. William & Mary improved to 9-7 on the year while Tech fell to 9-7.

After winning the doubles point, the Hokies lost five of the six singles matches in the defeat.

In singles, Tech picked up its lone win at No. 1 as Yasmin Hamza (Sr., Cairo, Egypt) defeated Hope Johnson, 6-3, 6-0. Martha Blakely (Jr., Reading, Pa.) dropped the No. 2 match, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, to Marlen Mesgarzadeh, Tea Ivanovic (Fr., Antwerp, Belgium) lost, 7-6, 7-6, against Jelte Loomans and Holly Johnson (Sr., Tallahassee, Fla.) dropped a tough, 7-6, 3-6, 7-5, contest at No. 4 versus Anik Cepeda.

Elsewhere in singles, Shannon Betts (Jr., Newnan, Ga.) lost, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 5 to Katie Kargl and Isel Martinez-Marcos fell, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 6 against Marivick Mamiit.

Tech won the doubles point as Hamza/Johnson upset 50th-ranked Cepeda/Johnson, 8-3, at No. 1 and Blakely/Courtney Rauscher (Jr., Evans, Ga.) won 8-2 at No. 2 over Kargl/Mesgarzadeh. Betts/Martinez-Marcos dropped the No. 3 contest, 8-4, to Loomas/Sabacinski.

The Hokies will return to action next weekend playing host to No. 35 Florida State (Fri., March 26) and No. 6 Miami (Sat., March 27).
