BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team returns to action on Fri., March 18, for a 2:30 p.m., home match against No. 43 William & Mary. The Hokies have won four straight and seven of their last nine matches. The contest will be played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.
Tech (9-6), ranked No. 46 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, won four matches last week. The Hokies defeated Connecticut and Valparaiso by 7-0 scores in Puerto Rico, before knocking off No. 66 Winthrop, 4-3, and East Tennessee State, 7-0, at home.. Tech’s depth has been key to the success thus far as the Hokies are a combined 31-14 at the No. 4-6 positions in dual matches.
William & Mary (8-7) defeated Minnesota, 5-2, at home on Tuesday and have the duo of Anik Cepeda/Hope Johnson ranked No. 50 nationally in doubles. The Tribe leads the all-time series, 14-2, and the two programs have not met since the 2005 season.
Following Friday’s match, Tech will play host to No. 35 Florida State (Fri., March 26) and No. 6 Miami (Sat., March 27).
