Aquadilla, Puerto Rico – Virginia Tech made the most of its time in Puerto Rico with a dominating, 7-0, victory over Valparaiso Wednesday afternoon. The win completed a sweep after the Hokies, ranked No. 60, had defeated Connecticut, 7-0, earlier in the day. Tech improved to 7-6 on the year, while Valparaiso fell to 0-5.

Tech swept the three doubles matches and easily won all six of the singles contests with the loss of only one game.

In singles, Yasmin Hamza (Sr., Cairo, Egypt) won the No. 1 match, 6-0, 6-0, over Brittany O’Reilly and Martha Blakely (Jr, Reading, Pa.), ranked No. 120 nationally, defeated Jackie O’Reilly, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2. Elsewhere, Tea Ivanovic (Fr., Antwerpen, Belgium) blanked Kristin Zakiewicz, 6-0, 6-0, Isel Martinez-Marcos (Fr., Esparreguera, Spain) took the No. 4 match, 6-0, 6-0, against Stephanie York, Emily Lauten (So., Marietta, Ga.) won, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 versus Katie Bilyeu and Katie Blow (Jr., Richmond, Va.) took the No. 6 contest, 6-0, 6-0, over Aubree Zdanovec.

Tech swept the doubles as Blakely/Courtney Rauscher (So., Evans, Ga.) won, 8-1, at No. 1 over Bilyeu/Zakiewicz, Betts/Martinez-Marcos defeated J. O’Reilly/York, 8-1, at No. 2 and the Hokies completed the sweep as Megan Conley (So., Knoxville, Tenn.)/Lauten took the No. 3 match, 8-3, over B. O’Reilly/Zdanovec.

The Hokies will return to action on March 12 when they host Winthrop in a 11 a.m., contest.
