Aquadilla, Puerto Rico. – Virginia Tech women’s tennis team had no trouble with its first match of the day in cruising past Connecticut, 7-0. The Hokies, ranked No. 60, will return quickly to the court later today for a match against Valparaiso. Tech improved to 6-6 on the year while Connecticut fell to 1-5.

Tech easily swept the three doubles matches and won all six of the singles contests with the loss of only one set.

In singles, Yasmin Hamza (Sr., Cairo, Egypt) won the No. 1 match, 6-1, 6-0, over Jennifer Learmonth and Martha Blakely (Jr, Reading, Pa.), ranked No. 120 nationally, defeated Emily Herb, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2. Elsewhere, Tea Ivanovic (Fr., Antwerpen, Belgium) beat Alexa Gregory, 6-0, 6-3, Shannon Betts (Jr., Newnan, Ga.) took the No. 4 match, 6-1, 6-2, against Lauren Wilmarth, Holly Johnson (Sr., Tallahassee, Fla.) won, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 versus Abby McKeon and Courtney Rauscher (So., Evans, Ga.) took the No. 6 contest, 6-7 (4), 6-0, 1-0 (8).

Tech swept the doubles as Hamza/Johnson won, 8-2, at No. 1 over Herb/Learmonth, Betts/Katie Blow (Jr., Richmond, Va.) defeated Gregory/McKeon, 8-2, at No. 2 and the Hokies completed the sweep as Ivanovic/Isel Martinez-Marcos (Fr., Esparreguera, Spain) took the No. 3 match, 8-2, over Marie Gargiulo/Katie Moritz.
