Hokies play host to Vols, Thundering Herd
Tough opposition awaits Tech this weekend

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will face stiff opposition this weekend as the Hokies host No. 11 Tennessee on Saturday at noon, and No. 55 Marshall in a Sunday contest at 1 p.m. The matches will be played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.

Virginia Tech (2-0) had a successful opening weekend last week picking up 6-1 home victories over Richmond and UNC Greensboro.

Tennessee (3-0) won two matches last weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., in the ITA Kick-off Weekend event defeating No. 25 Ohio State (6-1) and No. 17 Mississippi (5-2). Tennessee leads the all-time series, 6-0, and the two team’s match last year in Blacksburg was cancelled due to weather.

Marshall (5-1) split two matches at the ITA Kick-off Weekend Clemson, S.C. regional. The Herd suffered a, 4-0, loss to No. 19 Vanderbilt and defeated No. 61 Dartmouth, 6-0, in the consolation match. Marshall will play at West Virginia on Fri., Feb. 4, prior to taking on the Hokies. Tech leads the series, 13-5, however Marshall won last year, 5-2, in Huntington, W.Va.

The first 50 fans at the Tennessee match will receive a free Virginia Tech tote bag.
