Blakely takes Hokie Fall Invite Flight C final
Blow/Conley take Flight C doubles title

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Martha Blakely won the Flight C singles final and Katie Blow/Megan Conley won the Flight C doubles crown on the final day of the 17th Annual Hokie Fall Invitational. The event featured 100 players from 15 teams and 26 countries. The tournament was played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.

The event featured players from Davidson, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, James Madison, Liberty, Louisville, Marshall, Maryland-Baltimore County, Radford, Richmond, Penn State, UNC Wilmington, William & Mary, Winthrop and host Virginia Tech.

In singles, Blakely (Jr., Reading, Pa.), cruised to the Flight C singles title with a, 6-1, 6-1, win over Hannah Fick (Liberty). Elsewhere, Holly Johnson (Sr., Tallahassee, Fla.) dropped the Flight A singles title, 6-4, 6-3, to Julia Fellerhoff (Louisville), while Shannon Betts (Jr., Newnan, Ga.) took third place in Flight B with a, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (5), win over Rebecca Shine (Louisville).

In doubles, Tech advanced two doubles teams to the Flight C title match where Katie Blow (Jr., Richmond, Va./Megan Conley (So., Knoxville, Tenn.) defeated Isel Martinez-Marcos (Fr., Esparreguera, Spain/Courtney Rauscher (Jr., Evans, Ga.), 8-6. Yasmin Hamza (Sr., Cairo, Egypt)/Holly Johnson (Sr., Tallahassee, Fla.) took third place in Flight A with a tight, 9-8 (6), win over Catherine Kellner/Marla Voskcekova (Marshall).

The Hokies will return to action when several members of the team will travel to Norfolk, Va., Oct. 21-24, to participate in the Wilson/ITA Atlantic Regional.
