WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech concluded play Sunday on the final day of the 18th Annual William and Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.. The three-day event, played at facilities throughout Williamsburg, included 13 programs from across the country competing in five singles flights and three doubles brackets.

In addition to host William & Mary, the tourney included players representing Columbia, Eastern Michigan, Marshall, Maryland, Winthrop, Penn, ODU, VCU, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Harvard and Richmond.

In Sunday doubles action, Shannon Betts (Jr., Newnan, Ga.)/Isel Martinez-Marcos (Esparreguera, Spain) won their Flight B consolation match with a, 8-6, win over Sims/Tidwell (UR). Yasmin Hamza (Sr., Cairo, Egypt) lost, 6-3. 6-3, to Emily Fraser (UVa) in the Flight A consolation bracket. Several other scheduled were not played due travel requirements.

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Three members of the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team saw action Sunday on the final day of the UNCW Collegiate Tennis Invitational presented by RBC Wealth Management. The three-day event was played at the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Center and included players from host UNCW, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, and Furman who competed in four flights of singles and one flight of doubles.

In order to avoid matchups of teammates, several brackets were adjusted on the final day of action. Martha Blakely (Jr., Reading, Pa.) defeated Margaret Boyette (Furman), 7-6 (5), 4-6, 1-0 (8), and doubles partner Holly Johnson (Sr., Tallahassee, Fla.) edged Katherine Oudin (Furman), 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (6). Elsewhere, Amanda Murray (Furman) defeated Emily Lauten (So., Marietta, Ga.), 6-3, 6-1.
