Blakely/Johnson take UNCW doubles title
Hokies continue play in William & Mary and UNCW Invites

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Tech duo of Martha Blakely/Holly Johnson won two matches Saturday to take the doubles title on the second day of the UNCW Collegiate Tennis Invitational presented by RBC Wealth Management. The three-day event is being played at the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Center. The event includes players from host UNCW, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, and Furman who are competing in four flights of singles and one flight of doubles.

Blakely (Jr., Reading, Pa.)/Johnson (Sr., Tallahassee, Fla.) defeated Sekely/Wetmore (GT), 8-3, in the semifinals, then took the title with a, 8-3, win in the final over Arguello/Boyette (Furman).

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech had several players see action on the second day of the 18th Annual William and Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.. The three-day event, being played at facilities throughout Williamsburg, includes 13 programs from across the country competing in five singles flights and three doubles brackets.

In addition to host William & Mary, the tourney includes players representing Columbia, Eastern Michigan, Marshall, Maryland, Winthrop, Penn, ODU, VCU, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Harvard and Richmond.

Tech’s doubles pair of Shannon Betts (Jr., Newnan, Ga.)/Isel Martinez-Marcos (Fr., Esparreguera, Spain) won their Flight B quarterfinal, 8-6, over Black/Lehman (Harvard), before dropping the semifinal, 8-4, against No. 2 seeds Herrera/Portiolli (Winthrop), 8-6.
