GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Martha Blakely was named to the 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women’s Tennis Team as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford. Blakely (So., Reading, Pa.) was named to the team for the second consecutive year.
Blakely is majoring in biochemistry, chemistry and mathematics and received the Skelton Award, given to the top Virginia Tech female scholar-athlete, at the Tech All-sports banquet on May 3. She has been selected to both the Dean’s List and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and was a member of the 2009 the 2009 ACC Academic Honor Roll. Blakely was also named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Women’s At-Large Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Duke, Miami and North Carolina each placed four players on this year’s All-ACC Academic Women’s Tennis Team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
