BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team lost, 6-1, Saturday afternoon to No. 8 Clemson at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Tech falls to 9-11 and 2-8 in the ACC with the loss, while Clemson improves to 20-4 and 8-2 in league action.

The Tigers swept the three doubles matches for the first point of the day, then took five of the six singles contests in the victory.

In singles action, Yasmin Hamza (Jr., Cairo, Egypt) lost the No. 1 match, 6-4, 6-2, to 19th-ranked Josipa Bek, while Martha Blakely (So., Reading, Pa.) was defeated, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 against 71st-ranked Keri Wong. Shannon Betts (So., Newnan, Ga.) fell, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 versus No. 102 Ina Hadziselimovic and Emily Lauten (Fr., Marietta, Ga.) lost her No. 4 contest, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (5), to 89th-ranked Nelly Ciolkowski.

In the remaining singles matches, Courtney Rauscher (So., Evans, Ga.) picked up the Hokies lone point of the day with a, 7-5, 0-6, 1-0 (6) decision over Estefania Balda in the No. 5 match and Holly Johnson (Jr., Tallahassee, Fla.) lost the No. 6 match, 7-6 (5), 6-3, against Carolina Magnusson.

In doubles, Hamza/Johnson lost, 8-0, at No. 1 to 9th-ranked Bek/Hadziselimovic and Lauten/Rauscher fell, 8-4, at No. 3 to Balda/Wong to clinch the point for the Tigers. In the remaining match, Tech’s Betts/Blakely won the No. 2 match, 8-3, versus Ciolkowski/Magnusson.

In the remaining match, Tech will conclude the regular season on Sunday hosting No. 25 Georgia Tech at noon and Liberty at 5 p.m.
