BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will try to end a five-match losing streak this weekend with road matches at No. 50 Wake Forest and No. 32 NC State. The Hokies will play the Demon Deacons on Saturday at noon, then travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday against the Wolfpack.
The Hokies (9-8, 2-5) dropped five consecutive ACC matches with all five opponents among the top-30 teams in the nation. Tech lost home matches last weekend against No. 5 Duke (1-6) and No. 1 North Carolina (0-7).
Wake Forest (7-11, 1-5) currently has a four-match losing streak after dropping home contests last weekend against No. 17 Florida State (3-4) and No. 9 Miami (0-5). The Demon Deacons are led by Martina Pavelec, ranked No. 68 nationally in singles. Tech defeated Wake Forest, 5-2, last year at home.
NC State (9-8, 1-6) has dropped four consecutive matches, including 7-0 losses last week to both Miami and Florida State. The top player for the Wolfpack is 64th-ranked Sandhya Nagaraj. The Pack also features the nationally ranked doubles team of No. 42 Berkely Brock/Nagaraj. The Hokies blanked the Wolfpack, 7-0, last year in Blacksburg, Va.
Following this weekend’s action, Tech will conclude the regular season with home matches versus No. 9 Clemson on Saturday, April 17 (noon) and No. 20 Georgia Tech on Sunday, April 18 (noon).
