BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team picked up its sixth consecutive victory with a, 5-2, win over Boston College Saturday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Tech improves to 9-3 and 2-0 in the ACC on the year, while Boston College fell to 4-8, 1-2 in league action.

Tech, ranked No. 60 in this week’s ITA national poll, won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point of the evening, then captured four of the six singles contests.

In singles action, Tech took a quick 2-0 lead as Shannon Betts (So., Newnan, Ga.) easily won her No. 3 match, 6-0, 6-1, over Olga Khmylev. Boston College got on the board when Martha Blakely (So., Reading, Pa.) lost, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 1 to Alex Kelleher. The Hokies increased the lead to 3-1 when Emily Lauten (Fr., Marietta, Ga.) took a, 6-1, 6-2, win in her No. 5 match against Brittany Delaney and clinched the victory as Holly Johnson (Jr., Tallahassee, Fla.) took the No. 6 contest, 6-2, 6-1, versus Jacqueline Mabatah.

In the remaining singles matches, Yasmin Hamza (Jr., Cairo, Egypt) defeated Katharine Atwell, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 and Courtney Rauscher (So., Evans, Ga.) dropped her No. 4 contest, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (5) against Ina Kauppila.

The Eagles won the No. 1 doubles as Blakely/Lauten lost, 8-2, to Kelleher/Klmylev, but Tech tied up the competiton as Hamza/Johnson took the No. 2 match, 8-4, over Attwell/Delaney. The Hokies took the point with a 8-6 win at No. 3 by Betts/Raucher against Kauppila/Mabatah.

The Hokies return to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Sunday to take on No. 27 Virginia.
