BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team returns to action this weekend for two key home matches at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Tech has won five straight after picking up a 6-1 road win at Richmond last weekend.

The Hokies (8-3, 1-0 ACC), ranked No. 60 nationally in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, continue to receive solid performances from the middle of the lineup. Yasmin Hamza (Jr., Cairo, Egypt) has posted an 9-2 singles record at the No. 3 position, while Shannon Betts (So., Newnan, Ga.) is 8-2 at No. 4. Courtney Rauscher (So., Evans, Ga.) has continued her solid play at No. 5 with a 7-2 mark.

Boston College (5-7, 1-2 ACC) suffered a 7-0 loss on March 5 at Miami. The Eagles won last year’s meeting, 4-3, in Weymouth, Mass., however, the Hokies lead the series, 3-2, in ACC contests.

Virginia (9-3, 2-0), ranked No. 27, is led by No. 41 Lindsey Hardenbergh and also features the 40th ranked doubles teams of Emily Fraser/Jennifer Stevens along with No. 50 Hardenbergh/Erin Vierra. Virginia took a 7-0 victory last year in Charlottesville, Va. and holds a 5-0 advantage over the Hokies in ACC regular season contests. In 2008, the Cavaliers escaped from Blacksburg with a narrow 4-3 win.

Following this weekend’s action, Tech will be on the road at No. 13 Miami on Friday, March 26, and at No. 19 Florida State on Sunday, March 28 at noon.
