Tech returns to action at Richmond
Hokies look for fifth consecutive win

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team returns to action at 1 p.m., Saturday, when the Hokies take the court for a match at Richmond. Tech has won four straight matches after picking up home victories last weekend over Louisville (6-1) and South Alabama (7-0).

The Hokies (7-3, 1-0 ACC), ranked No. 73 nationally in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, continue to receive solid performances from the middle of the lineup. Yasmin Hamza (Jr., Cairo, Egypt) has posted an 8-2 singles record at the No. 3 position, while Shannon Betts (So., Newnan, Ga.) is 7-2 at No. 4. Courtney Rauscher (So., Evans, Ga.) has continued her solid play at No. 5 with a 6-2 mark.

Richmond (3-3, 2-1 Atlantic 10) defeated Charlotte, 6-1, on March 9, and the Spiders lead the series with the Hokies, 26-16. Tech won last year’s meeting, 5-2, in Blacksburg, Va., and has won the last two matches in the series.

Following this Saturday’s action, Tech will return home next weekend for key ACC contests against Boston College (March 20) and No. 39 Virginia (March 21).
