BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team earned their third victory of the season with a 5-2 win over ETSU on Saturday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech (3-1) took four of the six singles contest for the second-straight match, similar to their 5-2 win over No. 51 Georgia State last weekend. Christin Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) defeated Kelly Holzhausen, 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 matchup. Shannon Betts (Newnan, Ga.) posted another victory in the No. 4 match over Karina Kedzo, winning 6-1, 6-1. Emily Lauten (Marietta, Ga.) defeated Andra Voinea by scores of 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 6 matchup, while Courtney Rauscher (Evans, Ga.) clinched the Hokies’ final singles’ victory over Diana Navrostska in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 10-6.

In other singles action, Martha Blakely (Reading, Pa.) fell to Yevgeniya Stupak, 0-6, 0-6 at No. 1 and Yasmin Hamza (Cairo, Egypt) put up a tough match but lost to Paula Jaime 6-1, 2-6, 4-6.

The Hokies took two of three in doubles action, first earning a quick 8-4 victory from No. 3 Hamza/Lauten. Johnson/Newman then played to an 8-5 win over ETSU’s Jaime/Kedzo in the No. 2 slot. The Buccaneers would clinch the final doubles match for a point as Stupak/Holtzhausen saw an 8-6 victory over Betts/Blakely in the No. 1 match.

The women’s matches against Liberty and #10 Tennessee scheduled for Sunday have been postponed. The team will next play on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Marshall at 1 pm.
