ATLANTA, Ga. - Virginia Tech women’s tennis team’s trip south proved not to be a good experience as the Hokies finished 0-2 with Sunday’s 7-0 loss at sixth-ranked Georgia Tech. The match was played at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on the Georgia Tech campus. The Hokies dropped a 5-2 decision at Clemson on Friday on the first leg of the trip. Tech falls to 10-6 overall and 1-4 in the ACC while Georgia Tech improved to 10-5 and 4-1 in the league.

Georgia Tech took two of the three doubles matches for the first point the swept all of the singles matches in the win.

In singles. Inga Beermann (Sr., Bad Salzuflen, Germany) lost 7-5, 6-1, at No. 1 to Irina Falconi, ranked seventh nationally. Jessica Brouwer (Sr., Maarssen, The Netherlands) dropped her No. 2 contest, 6-4, 6-1, to 18th-ranked and current national champion Amanda McDowell. Elsewhere, Martha Blakely (Fr., Reading, Pa.) put up a tough battle before falling 7-6, 6-3, at No. 3 to No. 43 Noelle, Hickey, Yasmin Hamza (So., Cairo, Egypt) dropped her No. 4 match, 7-5, 6-0, to No. 46 Christy Striplin, Courtney Rauscher (Fr., Evans, Ga.) fell 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 against Sasha Krupina and Holly Johnson (So., Tallahassee, Fla.) dropped her No. 6 match, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (6) versus Viet Ha Ngo.

The Hokies lone win of the day occurred in the No. 2 doubles match as Beermann/Blakely edged Lynn Blau McDowell, 8-7. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets won the other two doubles contest as the 20th-ranked duo of Hickey/Striplin blanked Brouwer/Johnson, 8-0, at No. 1 and Falconi/Krupina won 8-5 at No. 3 against Hamza/Abbey Walker (Sr., Lancaster, S.C.)

The Hokies return to court next weekend hosting No. 8 Miami on Sat., Mar. 28 at noon and No. 30 Florida State the following day at 11 a.m.
