BLACKSBURG, Va. --- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team returns to action Wednesday afternoon for a 2 p.m. match against Richmond. The contest will be held at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus and admission is free.
Wednesday is Kid’s Day at the tennis center, with an appearance by the HokieBird and the first 100 fans will receive a free VT Frisbee.
Virginia Tech (9-4), ranked No. 51 in this week’s ITA national poll, split two matches last week winning 6-1 at Tulane and dropping a 7-0 decision at No. 18 Virginia. Tech is led by Inga Beermann (Sr., Bad Salzuflen, Germany) who has compiled a 7-4 dual match record this year at the No. 1 position. The Hokies have also received solid play from freshmen Martha Blakely (Reading, Pa.) and Courtney Rauscher (Evans, Ga.) who have combined to produce a 17-7 dual match worksheet. Tech’s top doubles pair of Jessica Brouwer (Sr., Maarssen, The Netherlands)/Holly Johnson (So., Tallahassee, Fla.), ranked No. 63 nationally, have compiled a 20-6 doubles record this season.
Richmond (10-2) is riding a four-match winning streak after taking matches last week in Florida against Nova Southeastern (7-2), Florida Atlantic (7-0) and Boston University (4-3).
