WEYMOUTH, Mass. - The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team dropped its ACC opener in a 4-3 upset to Boston College Friday night. Tech falls to 6-3 overall and 0-1 in the ACC while Boston College improved to 4-2 and 1-0 in league play.

Tech, ranked No. 39 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, lost two of the three matches to drop the doubles point and split the six singles contests in the defeat.

In singles, Inga Beermann (Sr., Bad Salzuflen, Germany) won her No. 1 match, 6-3, 6-3, against 118th-ranked Lana Krasnopolsky and Jessica Brouwer (Sr., Maarssen, The Netherlands) lost, 7-6 (2), 6-3, at No. 2 versus Katarina Gajic.

Elsewhere, Martha Blakely (Fr., Reading, Pa.) upset No. 96 Lauren Cash, 6-3, 7-6, in the No. 3 match, Holly Johnson (So., Tallahassee, Fla.) fell 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4 against Katharine Attwell, Courtney Rauscher (Fr., Evans, Ga.) won her No. 5 match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, over Dasha Cherkasov and Katie Blow (Fr., Richmond, Va.) dropped the No. 6 contest, 6-0, 6-2, versus Brittany Delaney.

In doubles, Brouwer/Johnson overcame four match points in the tiebreaker to defeat Cash/Cherkasov, 8-7 (7) at No. 1. Beermann/Blakely dropped the No. 2 contest, 8-5, against Gajic/Alina Sullivan and Rauscher/Abbey Walker (Sr., Lancaster, S.C.) lost, 8-4, in their No. 3 match versus Attwell/Krasnopolsky.

The Hokies will return to action on Sun., Mar. 1, when they host Maryland at noon.
