BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team opens ACC play this weekend with two matches. The Hokies travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. for a 7 p.m. match on Friday against Boston College then return home for a noon contest on Sunday with Maryland.
Virginia Tech (6-2), ranked No. 39 in this week’s ITA national poll, dropped its’ only match last week (6-1) at No. 38 Virginia Commonwealth. The loss snapped a three-match winning streak for the Hokies.
Boston College (3-2) also had a three-match streak stopped last weekend in a 6-1 loss at home to No. 33 Illinois. Tech blanked the Eagles, 7-0, last year on the road and the Hokies lead the all-time series, 10-3, including 3-0 in ACC matches.
Maryland (2-6) will play at No. 29 Virginia on Friday prior to Sunday’s match in Blacksburg. The Terrapins snapped a four-match slide last weekend with a 5-2 win at Penn. Tech defeated Maryland, 6-1, last season in College Park, Md., however the Terps lead the all-time series, 7-4, and the series is tied, 2-2, in ACC contests.
After Sunday’s action, Tech will play at Winthrop on Mar. 5, at 2 p.m.
