BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team continued to have early season success with a 7-0 win Saturday afternoon against Liberty. The match was played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.

Tech (5-1), ranked No. 41 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, took two of three matches to win the doubles point then swept the six singles contests for the victory.

In singles, Martha Blakely (Fr., Reading, Pa.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 2 against Lais Souzo and Abbey Walker (Sr., Lancaster, S.C.) gave Tech a 3-0 lead with her 6-1, 6-2, win in the No. 4 match over Hannah Fick. The Hokies clinched the win as Katie Blow (Fr., Richmond) won the No. 6 contest, 6-0, 6-3, against Voleriyo Kelintsevich.

In other singles results, Courtney Rauscher (Fr., Evans, Ga.) won her No. 3 match, 6-3, 6-1, versus Nadia Soloman-Burgess and Shannon Betts (Fr., Newnan, Ga.) took the No. 5 match, 6-0, 6-4, over Stephanie Brown. The Hokies completed the sweep as Inga Beermann (Sr., Bad Salzuflen, Germany), ranked 125th-natioally, came from behind to defeat Jordan Jenkins, 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (8) in the No. 1 singles contest.

Tech won the doubles to open the competition as Jessica Brouwer (Sr., Maarssen, The Netherlands)/Holly Johnson (So., Tallahassee, Fla.) easily won their No. 1 match, 8-1, over Soloman-Burgess/Souzo and the Hokies clinched the point as Yasmin Hamza (So., Cairo, Egypt)/Walker took the No. 2 match, 8-4, against Brown/Fick. The Flames managed to salvage one match from the doubles competition when Blow/Rauscher lost to Jenkins/Kelintsevich, 8-7 (5), in the No. 3 match. A super tiebreaker was utilized at 7-7 since the doubles point had already been decided.

The Hokies return to action this afternoon at 4 p.m. against Davidson.
