Tech earns preseason ranking
Beermann selected to national list

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's tennis team received a No. 60 national ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason poll. Inga Beermann is ranked No. 125 in the national singles rankings.

Beermann (Sr., Bad Salzuflen, Germany) is also ranked No. 14 in the East Region while Jessica Brouwer (Sr., Maarssen, Netherlands) is No. 30. The Tech pair of Brouwer/Holly Johnson (So., Tallahassee, Fla.) is ranked eighth in the region.

The Hokies concluded the 2007-08 season with a 14-13 mark to finish the year with a No. 60 national ranking and were also ranked fifth in the East Region. Tech returns five players from last year and will feature three seniors, two sophomores and four freshmen.

The preseason national poll includes 10 of the 12 ACC teams: No. 8 Georgia Tech, No. 9 Duke, No. 11 Clemson, No. 13 Miami, No. 18 North Carolina, No. 20 Florida State, No. 36 NC State, No. 41 Virginia, No. 42 Wake Forest and No. 60 Virginia Tech.

Tech opens the dual match season on Jan. 28 hosting Elon (2 p.m.) and Longwood (6 p.m.). The matches will be held at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.
