BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will host the 15th Annual Hokie Fall Invitational this weekend featuring 82 players from 13 teams. The event, Oct. 31-Nov. 2, will be held at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. Both the indoor and outdoor courts will be utilized during the tournament with play to begin at 8 a.m. each day. Admission is free.
The event features players from Appalachian State, Albany, Chattanooga, Davidson, East Carolina. East Tennessee State, Liberty, Marshall, Murray State, Radford, Virginia, Wofford and Virginia Tech. The tournament includes participants from 20 countries around the globe.
Friday’s action will begin with two rounds of doubles followed by a single round of singles. Saturday’s action opens with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles. Finals in all but the Flight C doubles will take place on Sunday and the Flight C doubles are set to conclude on Saturday.
In Flight A singles, Jessica Brouwer (Sr., Maarssen, The Netherlands) will face Jessica Cook (East Carolina) at 1 p.m. while teammate Inga Beermann (Sr., Bad Salzuflen, Germany) plays at the same time against Emily Hangstefer (Chattanooga). Yasmin Hamza (So., Cairo, Egypt), ranked No. 110 nationally, takes on Sonia Arnand (Wofford) at 2:30 p.m. in Flight B and Katie Blow (Fr., Richmond, Va.) battles Ivana Tomaic (Radford) at 4 p.m. in the same bracket.
Courtney Rauscher (Fr., Evans, Ga.) opens her Flight C competition versus Alexis Webb (Murray State) at 4:30 p.m. and Martha Blakely (Fr., Reading, Pa.) faces Susan Ma (Albany) at 5:30 p.m. in the same bracket. Shannon Betts (Fr., Newnan, Ga.) is the lone Tech player in Flight D and plays Katharine Dicconson (Davidson) in a 2 p.m. contest. In Flight E, Abbey Walker (Sr., Lancaster, S.C.) takes on Jessica Ratcliff (East Tennessee State) at 2 p.m.
The Tech duo of Brouwer/Holly Johnson (So., Tallahassee, Fla.) open the first day of the tournament at 8 a.m. with a Flight A doubles match versus Natalie Collins/Audrey LePottier (East Carolina). Beermann/Blakely received a first round bye and are scheduled to play their first match at 11 a.m.
Hamza/Rauscher will play Stephanie Brown/Hannah Frick (Liberty) at 9 a.m. in Flight B and Betts/Blow face Adriana Alvarez/Lyndsay Ottosen (Murray State) at 9:30 a.m. in the same bracket.
The Hokie Fall Invitational is the final event on Virginia Tech’s fall schedule.
