Tech players roll on at Sergio Tecchini Invite
Hokies sweep six singles matches

NORFOLK, Va. --- A day after taking two doubles titles, three Virginia Tech freshmen all advanced to semifinals in their respective divisions at the Sergio Tacchini Collegiate Invitational. The three-day event (Oct. 10-12) is being played at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center and at the Old Dominion University outdoor tennis complex.

Katie Blow (Fr., Richmond, Va.) dominated her two B-1 singles opponents blanking Andie Keyser-Baker (Loyola), 6-0, 6-0, then advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-3, win over Joy Ademumi (Maryland-Baltimore County). Blow will play the semifinal Sunday at 8 a.m. with a win sending her to the 1 p.m. final.

Shannon Betts (Fr., Newnan, Ga.) won a tight 4-6, 6-4, 1-0, B-3 division battle versus Kirstin Nimitz (James Madison), then defeated Jaclyn Williamson (Villanova), 6-3, 6-2, to move on to Sunday’s 8 a.m. semifinal.

Courtney Rauscher (Fr., Evans, Ga.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0, win against Livia Bronco (Hampton) in the C-s division, before taking a 6-1, 6-1, decision over Fanny Aizier (New Jersey Tech). She also advances to the 8 a.m. semifinal on Sunday.

The tournament includes players from Christopher Newport, Coastal Carolina, Delaware, Drexel, George Mason, George Washington, Hampton, Howard, James Madison, Lafayette, Liberty, Loyola, Manhattan, Mary Washington, Maryland-Baltimore County, New Jersey Tech, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Towson, Army, Villanova, Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia Tech and Virginia Wesleyan.
