BOULDER, Colo. - Virginia Tech's freshmen class made a big impression Friday on a busy day at the Colorado Invitational. The three-day event is being played at the South Campus Courts on the University of Colorado campus and featured players from Air Force, Colorado, Illinois, Northern Colorado, Virginia Tech and Wyoming

In the Black Draw, Holly Johnson (So., Tallahassee, Fla.), Shannon Betts (Fr., Newnan, Ga.) and Martha Blakely (Fr., Reading, Pa.) each won two matches to advance to Saturday's semifinals. Johnson will face Abbie Probert (Colorado) while the other semi will be an All-Hokie affair between Betts and Blakely. Abbey Walker (Sr., Lancaster, S.C.) won her first round match before losing in the semifinals and will play in the consolation on Saturday.

Tech got off to a great start in the Gold Draw with Yasmin Hamza (So., Cairo, Egypt), ranked No. 110 nationally, along with Jessica Brouwer (Sr., Maarssen, Netherlands) and Inga Beermann (Sr., Bad Salzuflen, Germany) all picking up first round victories. However all three dropped their quarterfinal matches and will play in consolation Saturday.

Two Hokies will face each other in Silver Draw finals as Courtney Rauscher (Fr., Evans, Ga.) and Katie Blow (Fr., Richmond, Va.) won two matches each to advance to the final. Tech will have one team in the Ralphie Draw semifinals as Beermann/Blakely won two matches to advance Brouwer/Johnson picked up one win before losing in the quarterfinals and Betts/Blow dropped their opening match in the same bracket.
