Hokies tied for second after first round at Brickyard Collegiate

The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a 302 and is tied for second place with ODU and Chattanooga after the first round of the Brickyard Collegiate, presented by Mizuno on Sunday afternoon. The three-day tournament is being played at the par 72, 6,155-yard Brickyard Golf Course in Macon, Georgia.
Elizabeth Bose, a junior from Norfolk, Virginia, leads the Hokies. She carded a 1-over 73 and is one stroke behind Payton Schanen of host Mercer, Louise Yu of Vanderbilt and Madison Caldwell of Kennesaw State. None of the tournament’s 78 competitors broke par on Sunday.
Allison Woodward, a redshirt junior from Unicoi, Tennessee, is tied for 14th at 75. The trio of Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, Emily Mahar, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia and Jessica Spicer, a sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, each shot 77 and are tied for 26th place.
Vanderbilt holds the team lead with a 6-over 294, eight strokes ahead of the Hokies, Monarchs and Mocs. Kennesaw State is fifth at 305, Marshall is sixth at 308, Mercer is seventh at 310 and North Florida is eighth at 312. Troy is ninth at 314, Jacksonville and ETSU are tied for 10th at 317, LSU is 12th at 319, Southern Mississippi is 13th at 320 and Samford is 14th at 321.
The second round will be played on Monday morning. Tech will be grouped with Vanderbilt and Chattanooga. Spicer will get the Hokies started at 10:10 a.m. from the first tee. Live scoring is available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from BirdieFire.com.
