Hokies fifth entering final round at Moon Golf Invitational

The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a two round total of 12-over 588 on Monday and is in fifth place entering the final round of the Moon Golf Invitational. The two-day tournament is being played at the par 72, 6,309-yard Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida.
Tech posted 6-over 294 in each on Monday’s two rounds. Four of Tech’s five players are in the top 21 players in the field. This is the team’s first tournament of the
Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, leads the Hokies. She shot 75-70 for a 1-over 145 and is tied for ninth place individually. Hollandsworth is five strokes behind leader Madison Thomas of Memphis. Hollandsworth had four birdies in her second round 70.
Elizabeth Bose, a junior from Norfolk, Virginia, is tied for 11th at 2-over 146 and Emily Mahar, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia, is tied for 17th at 148. Jessica Spicer, a sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for 21st at 149 and Allison Woodward, a redshirt junior from Unicoi, Tennessee, is tied for 65th at 159. Bose shot a 70 in the first round, with three birdies.
Ninth-ranked Furman leads the tournament with a 1-under 575, five strokes ahead of Augusta. Old Dominion is third at 586 and Memphis is fourth at 587, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Chattanooga is sixth at 591, host Louisville and Maryland are tied for seventh at 594, Kennesaw State is ninth at 600 and Southern Mississippi is 10th at 609. Michigan is 11th at 610, Rutgers is 12th at 614 and South Florida is 13th at 619.
The final round will be played on Tuesday morning, with a shotgun start a 8:45 a.m. Live scoring is available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
